Set goals, find your niche, and narrow your position in the Salesforce ecosystem. Tips from Max!

For those looking to break into the Salesforce ecosystem, and those that are lucky enough to already find themselves a part of it, you’ll all be aware of the vastness of the Salesforce product suite and the abundance of career paths you could choose. When I say this, though, most think I am referring to different roles such as #Consultant#Architect, or #Project Manager – in this instance, I’m not referring to specific roles at all. Instead, with the wide array of products that sit as part of the Salesforce arsenal, there is plenty of opportunity to specialize in delivering a certain product. This will enable you to develop niche expertise in a booming market where people often struggle to stand out.

Where to start:

Put Yourself First: What I mean by this is – Ask yourself, what do you want to do in your career? What impact do you want to have?

Do you want to deliver effective solutions to Non-Profit organizations and help drive change across the world?

Do you want to work in the fast-paced financial services industry and develop the technological backbone of our economy, or do you have a passion for sports and want to work with some of the world’s largest sporting brands?

Whatever your preference or passion might be, it should be from here that you determine the product you wish to specialize in!

Do your research:

Once you have identified the industry you wish to work with, now’s the time to research the market. Find out what Salesforce is used for primarily in that space (is it for sales, is it marketing, is it for #B2B sales), and what products specifically are in-demand.

You can do this by reading case studies online (including the Salesforce website), and researching the product specifications and they’ll often refer to industries where implementation of this product is more common. The use of your network is, however, my personal preference.

#LinkedIn is a convenient way to connect with professionals from all walks of life. Therefore, even if these people are not in your immediate circle, reach out to anyone working on Salesforce in your desired industry, and ask them for their advice. It’s one thing doing your own reading online, and it is very helpful, but getting input from someone who works in the industry you are in will be invaluable.

Additionally, don't hesitate to ask us!

Steadman Brown has a wealth of experience in the Salesforce ecosystem and has worked with Junior Admins in the Non-Profit space through to C-Suite personnel at Salesforce’s strategic partners, and our team would be more than happy to offer any advice that we can!

Start UP-SKILLING:
Salesforce offers countless ways in which you can upskill and develop yourself in the ecosystem – that might be through Trailhead, it could be through certifications, it could be through hands-on exposure to projects. Whatever it might be, there is plenty on offer for you to start to learn about the product(s) you wish to specialize in. I

’d always advise trying to push for project experience. This is because the skills and knowledge you will gain working on a live org implementation are more transferable in the working world. However, if this is not an option, learn as much as you can about your product (even push to get a certification, if you can), as this will emphasize your willingness to develop in that space specifically, and also put you in a much stronger position in the wider market to make you stand out amongst your competition.

Find That Role:
People often ask 'when am I ready to make that move?' As a rule, I say, when your confidence in your niche product matches your confidence in the core products (Sales and Service Cloud), you are ready.

Once you’re at this point, it’s time to take that new skill to market.

That’s where we come in. Steadman Brown specializes in Salesforce recruitment, and we pride ourselves not only on our service but on our industry knowledge and wider network. We will take the time to understand your existing skillset and what you have delivered, but also want to hear what companies you want to work for, your long-term vision for your career, your likes/dislikes, and more.

Therefore, we assist you in finding the appropriate company to continue to develop your specialization in that niche and deliver the changes you wish to make in your industry of choice.
