This November, some of the Steadman Brown team attended DevOps Dreamin' 2025. We spent the day learning about all things Salesforce DevOps, which is becoming an increasingly important part of the ecosystem. Our Consultant, Jason, has summed up the day in our latest blog.
The opening keynote featured Agnieszka Oliver discussing the backbone of DevOps, and it might not be what you’d expect.
She compared the difference of Zurich’s DevOps process from 2 years ago to now, and the key difference? It’s how the people collaborate with each other. There was nothing explicitly wrong with the actual process they followed or the tools they used, but more so how the DevOps lifecycle was approached. Having an environment that allows clear communication and an openness to ask questions is vital for a good DevOps process - “DevOps is a cultural movement not technical”.
Silvia Denaro followed up with a talk on the power of establishing key roles within the DevOps team, and the responsibilities every member of the team must have for a smoothly run DevOps process.
Of equal matter of importance, she then explained the necessity to fix and build the processes you follow before even thinking about buying a flashy automation tool. Silvia also won our Salesforce DevOps book giveaway, and we got the chance to deliver it in person!
Ellie Matthewman ran through observability.
From explaining what it actually means and its importance within DevOps, to the the key pillars of observability and the different observability platforms that can make your life a whole lot easier - “Observability: understanding what’s happening inside a system without having to open it up”.
Patrick Mueller then explained the importance of Agentforce readiness.
Everyone wants to have AI within their business as the prospect of it is exciting. But, to make sure the AI ship runs smoothly there’s a couple things you must be doing:
Not every stakeholder is going to be clued up on the effect tools like Agentforce can have on a business, so the first thing you need to do is ensure you properly educate them on the risks that follow. As well as the necessary precautions that need to be taken. Some of which include having backups, logging, archiving and checking the metadata quality.
Sunny Matharu showcased a real scenario of what a good DevOps process can bring to a business, with their collaboration with Taylor Rose.
He ran through some of the difficulties that they were able to overcome with the combination of a clued up Salesforce team and some of the best DevOps tools available. When you have a complex Salesforce set-up and a range of external vendors you’re using, it’s vital that you’re using the right tools at the right time.
Ben Coleman highlighted the increasing need of good DevOps with AI coming into common use in the Salesforce ecosystem.
He gave a few horror stories of what happens when you use tools like Agentforce Vibes (an Agent you describe what you want built and it goes out and creates it for you) without a proper testing and deployment system in place! you can only imagine.... The talk also explained how testing will have to be looked at in a new light - “Testing isn’t just about functionality anymore, but behaviours too.”
Overall, an incredibly successful day of learning and connecting.
Salesforce DevOps is becoming increasingly important, and is widely a part of conversations we have with candidates everyday. Seeing the importance of Salesforce DevOps at events like this, allow us to have more meaningful, knowledgeable conversations with our community and channel this into our recruitment process. We can't wait for what next year may have in store!
